No matter how corny - never gets old! and yeah I took a gothic horror class and we discussed the use of letter writing for tone and mystery to set a setting for the setting - if that makes sense. OMG did you ever see the tv mini series for Salem's Lot - I thought it did the book so much justice, I wish I could find a hard copy of it for my keeping.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09748597134683210873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8057059767447117825.post-89012821206210953282011-02-14T21:35:32.153-07:002011-02-14T21:35:32.153-07:00The letters format I think was in the original Dra...The letters format I think was in the original Dracula story as well. S. King wrote about it in the prologue to 'Salem's Lot. Awesome read as well. More old school vampire hunting. It was good though. VERY different from Buffy though, my main point of reference for vampires, so that took a little getting used to.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18375351988564714680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8057059767447117825.post-5835628461838868312011-02-04T09:49:19.705-07:002011-02-04T09:49:19.705-07:00I think on the camera front I have decided to go &...I think on the camera front I have decided to go "pawn shopping" because my birthday is only a couple months away and I can probably get something decent for 20 bucks to last me til then - but I will be doing some comparison shopping and will definitely check out the nikon!
The book is called "The Historian" - I can not put it down, it's by Elizabeth Kostova (about 700 pgs) - It's about a college student in the mid 40s (?? it bounces around a lot in time) who comes into possession of this strange book and takes it to his advisor who beings telling him these theories about Vlad Dracula the Impaler vs. the Dracula the monster and how they might be one and the same and...dun dun dun ALIVE! Anyway it's told by the daughter of the college student who is recounting the stories of her father via letters he's written and what he has actually said and it gets even twistier because most of his story is about following the stories and letters left to him by his advisor who went hunting for Dracula in the 1920s (?? the timing is tricky, I always forget what decade I'm in)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09748597134683210873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8057059767447117825.post-4560119228260630772011-02-03T18:09:51.739-07:002011-02-03T18:09:51.739-07:00Thanks for your comments! I got it for Christmas and it's easy to use and not too expensive (at least I don't think it is--but it was a gift, so i can't be 100% positive.)
And finally, what's this Dracula book you mentioned? I may have to put that on my reading list too! But first, I need to finish my Elmore Leonard and get back to Stephen King. I guess I feel like I'm not terrified enough lately.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18375351988564714680noreply@blogger.com
